20 progressive studies for Bb Clarinet-This collection by Jayson Mackie contains 20 solo compositions in a Latin style for the Clarinet. Latin music has been a particular favourite genre of mine to write in having grown up listening to jazz bands and playing in them as a teenager. Most people can name a handful of the more well-known dances (thanks to the popularity of Strictly Come Dancing!) but I knew there were many more lesser-known Latin styles out there. So in August 2015 I decided to research some of the many dance forms of the Caribbean and South America. Piano reduction with solo part-In 1947 Aaron Copland accepted a commission from Benny Goodman ‘The King Of Swing’ for a piece for solo Clarinet and Orchestra. Copland always wary of repeating himself welcomed the challenge of composing a Clarinet concerto – ‘it might stimulate some fresh ideas’. He knew from the start that a bow to jazz was called for and he hoped also to demonstrate the lyrical qualities of the Clarinet. Dedicated to Goodman the Concerto for Clarinet was finished by the end of 1948. Clarinettists were soon welcoming this new virtuoso piece and it has since become a standard in the Orchestral repertoire.The concerto consists of two movements played back-to-back connected by a Clarinet cadenza. The dreamy and melodic first movement is followed by a free rondo dominated by melodic Latin American jazz themes and is resolved in the end with an elaborate coda in C major that finishes off with a Clarinet glissando – or 'smear' in jazz lingo. Originally written for Clarinet and String Orchestra with Harp and Piano in this edition Concerto for Clarinet is arranged for Clarinet with Piano accompaniment by the composer. Along the published version with the changes requested by Benny Goodman ossias from the original 1948 manuscript are included as well. Comes with a separate insert of the Clarinet score.

Clarissimo, latin? clarinet ballad? est un recueil de compositions originales présentant un large panel de rythmes issus des musiques traditionnelles et populaires Latino-américaines et Caribéennes. Qu?elles soient de l?altiplano (Huayno du Pérou, Takirari de Bolivie) des côtes pacifique ou atlantique (Cumbia de Colombie, Milonga d?Argentine) ou bien des îles Caraïbes (Boléro de Cuba, Reggae de Jamaïque), ces musiques aux rythmes chaloupés et aux mélodies colorées présentent de nombreux intérêts pédagogiques. Tout d?abord, cette musique de tradition orale invite les musiciens (professeur et élève) à se l?approprier par la mémorisation à travers l?écoute du CD (écoute active, chant de la mélodie?) La mise en place pourra ensuite être travaillée en jouant, avec ou sans partition, sur la bande playback. Il existe quelques différences d?articulations entre l?interprétation du cd et la partition. Ceci est du au caractère propre de cette musique. Dans ce troisième volume, nous allons rencontrer des mélodies plus complexes s?appuyant sur les rythmes typiques latino-américains (syncopes, mesures aux appuis décalés, mesures irrégulières). Pour les interpréter correctement, l?élève devra avoir une pulsation intérieure solide et stable et pour se faire il pourra par exemple se préparer rythmiquement de la manière suivante : pulsation distribuée alternativement dans les 2 pieds tout en frappant les rythmes indiqués dans les mains. Les articulations proposées sont données à titre indicatif. On pourra faire évoluer l?exercice en jouant des séquences du thème à la clarinette tout en gardant la pulsation aux pieds (d?abord lentement puis à la vitesse). À ce propos le playback donne un indicateur rythmique extrêmement précis sur la spécificité de chacun des morceaux. Bon voyage !
